First Aid: A Lifesaving Story

AN AMAZING LIFESAVING STORY THAT REALLY DRIVES HOME THE IMPORTANCE OF FIRST AID TRAINING:

Caitlin Garrett, (school teacher, City of Edinburgh Council) attended one of our ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ courses earlier this month. A week later she contacted our first Aid trainer, Craig, with her story:

“I enjoyed the course and found it so useful to learn first aid in the off chance that I should ever be required to use it. Little did I know how soon after I would be required to use it!

On Monday lunchtime, a member of staff that I work with began choking on a cherry tomato that was blocking her airwaves. I was called, as a first aider, and had to put into practice the back slaps and abdominal thrusts that you had taught. Unfortunately she fell unconscious before I was able to dislodge the food, but after putting her on her back, I was able to dislodge the tomato and she regained consciousness. Thankfully she has made a full recovery, but it could have had a totally different ending. I would not have been able to do this, had I not attended the course only the week before.

I thought you might like to hear how vital the courses you run are, and how the skills really are the difference between life and death.”

WELL DONE CAITLIN!
