Emily’s Training for Care Journey

Back in 2017, Emily joined our ‘Nat 4 Early Learning and Childcare’ class and in 2018 progressed to our ‘Nat 5 Early Learning and Childcare’ class, both qualifications were delivered in school and in partnership with East Lothian Works.

After successfully completing the Nat 5 qualification, Emily decided that she would like to pursue a career in childcare so, when she left school in 2019, she joined our ‘Step into Childcare’ Employability Programme. On this programme she gained work experience in a nursery, as well as gaining additional employability skills and childcare knowledge. With the support of her tutor, Emily gained employment with her work experience nursery and, once employed, Emily became a Modern Apprentice and started her SVQ in Children and Young People at SCQF Level 7.

In December 2021, Emily achieved her SVQ in Children and Young People at SQCF level 7, making her a qualified nursery practitioner. We are very proud of her achievement and we are delighted to have been able to support her on each step of her journey.

Emily says: “from being part of Nat 4/5 childcare through to completing my SVQ award I have learnt that nothing is impossible and if I can make it through then so can anyone else”

Well done Emily!
