Moving and Handling - Wheelchair Awareness
The course covers the definition of controversial manoeuvres, risk assessment strategies for minimising risk, the structure and function of the spine, and the positions and movements most likely to cause injury. It also addresses the principles of safe movement, proper storage practices, and safety checks.

Practical :

Awareness of the application of safe handling principles to demonstrate

Sitting to standing and standing to sitting from/on a wheelchair

Manoeuvring a wheelchair indoors/outdoors including negotiating kerbs and ramps

Inanimate load handling chair transfers and assisted walking.
