The SVQ Level 2 in Social Services (Children and Young People) is a practical, work-based qualification designed for individuals working with children in early learning and childcare settings. It supports learners to develop the essential skills, knowledge, and professional values required to provide safe, responsive, and high-quality care​

What is VQFolio?

  • VQFolio is an online portfolio system for distance learning, support and assessment. It facilitates prompt communication between candidate and assessor, gives on-line access to planning guidelines and learning materials and access to an on-line forum for candidates.

How is it delivered?

  • In a class based environment every two weeks

  • Work-based learning in the learner’s current role

  • Two assessor observations in the workplace

  • Professional discussions and reflective accounts

  • Evidence gathered through a digital portfolio (e.g. VQfolio) - Ongoing support from a qualified assessor

Assessment

There are no exams. Assessment is based on: 

  • Observations of practice 

  • Knowledge questions

  • Work products and professional discussions

  • Portfolio evidence mapped to national occupational standards
