Ergonomics and Moving & Handling
The course is designed for either administrative, clerical, and management staff or support services staff working in care settings (e.g. portering, catering, domestic support services). The course meets the Display Screen Regulations (1992).
Course Content
Theory:
- the manual handling operations regulations
- risk avoidance, assessment and reduction
- responsibilities of employers, staff and volunteers
- basic anatomy, physiology and nature of injury
- efficient movement and ergonomics
- work station seating and design*
- handling of small inanimate loads and equipment* (* as appropriate to participant group)
Practical (minor component only):
- safe handling of small loads
- safe working procedures
- moving and handling of inanimate loads
