Essential Practice Skills for Social Carers

Designed to be both part of an induction programme for staff new to frontline social care (everything you want to know but are afraid to ask), and as a refresher programme for more experienced carers (checking, affirming and renewing practice).

  • anatomy and physiology and their relationship to personal care
  • disease processes and their management
  • responding to life threatening conditions
  • supporting people with chronic conditions
  • use of medical terminology when working with other health care professionals
  • approaches to support carer practice in communication, prevention of abuse, conflict situations, and stress management
 
  
Lead Tutor
  
Jean Watt BSc, RNMH. Jean has been Head of TfC's Care Department since 2004, and with the organisation since 2002. Before joining us she had five years' experience as a training manager in both the NHS and community care, and has practiced as a registered nurse since 1986.
